The Ascona Chess Festival will take place from the 3rd to the 9th of December, 2007, in Lugano, Switzerland. It will consist of 3 tournaments – The Ascona Open, the U25 Young Masters, and the InterNET Open. The main event will feature many strong GMs and IMs.
The IV Calvia Chess festival will take place from 15th-23th October, 2007. The top seeded player is GM Francisco Vallejo Pons. He will have difficult opponents such as Branko Damljanovic, Emanuel Berg, Varuzhan Akobian, Radoslaw Wojtaszek, Michele Godena, Pontus Carlsson.
The tournament format is double round robin. Chessdom will provide live coverage of the Crown Group with comments by GM Vladimir Dimitrov and Goran Urosevic! Stay tuned for the action starting on 14th October.
Corus Wijk aan Zee will be the first event of the Chess Grand Slam. As expected it will be one of the strongest tournaments in world’s history, having a category 20 and average rating of 2741 according to the October FIDE rating list.
Vassily Ivanchuk and Peter Leko will meet in a rapid chess match from 26 to 28 October in Mukachevo. A total of 12 rapid games will be played with time control 15 mins + 10 sec.
