The Dragon Capital Viet Nam Chess Tournament Open will kick off tomorrow, August 27th, in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. The tournament is the sixth and last elimination round under the Grand Prix system in the Asian-Pacific region.

The grandmasters Irina Krush, two times US Women Champion, and Alexander Shabalov, four times US Men Champion, announced recently they will repeat their participation in the Miami Chess Open that will be played September 10-14 in the Magic City. Some other strong players, as grandmasters Varuzhan Akobian, Viktor Mikhalevsky, Darmen Sadvakasov, Julio Becerra and Gilberto Hernández will also return to play the second edition of this tournament, with USD 100,000 in prizes.

The Chess Grand Slam Final in Bilbao will take place on 1-13 September 2008. The field is composed of six players to compete in a 10-games double round-robin. The first three will be the winners of Corus 2008, Morelia – Linares 2008, and Mtel Masters 2008 – GM Levon Aronian, GM Viswanathan Anand and GM Vassily Ivanchuk. GM Magnus Carlsen, who tied first at Corus and finished second in Linares, and GM Veselin Topalov, second from the Mtel Masters, are also invited. The sixth player will be GM Teimour Radjabov, who scored well in all Grand Slam events.

One of the last practice for the top participants in the European Club Cup in Kallithea will be the CECLUB (Spanish Club Cup). In the competition will participate 25 players from the world top 50, which is equivalent to 16 GMs over 2700 and 47 GMs over 2600.

InventiChess 2008

InventiChess 2008

InventiChess 2008 tournament will take place on 23-31 August in Antwerpen, Belgium. The top seeded player is Bu Xiangzhi of China, once the youngest Grandmaster on the world and currently rated second in his country. Next comes a group of strong players rated close to 2600 – Rafael Vaganian, Jan Werle, Zoltan Gyimesi and Evgenij Miroshnichenko, who already claimed an earlier InventiChess event.
