The “Galaxias” Chess Club of Thessaloniki and the Greek Chess Federation have the honour of inviting National Chess Federations, and eligible players in the World School Championship 2009 organised in Thessaloniki, Greece from 26th April (Arrival) to 4th of May (Departure) 2009.
The legendary players of the sixty-four square board, among them names such as the former World Champion Anatoly Karpov or the best Czech chess player of the second half of 20th century, Vlastimil Hort, will compete against the young chess female players, including the World under-eighteen Vice-Champion, the Czech player, Kateřina Němcová.
The main event of the festival will be the Stars Tournament. Invited players are Vassily Ivanchuk, Alexey Shirov, European U18 champion Xavi Vila, Sabrina Vega Gutierrez, European Women Champion Kateryna Lahno and European Champion Sergei Tiviakov. The tournament format should be a double round robin.
Elista, Russia will be hosting the third stage of the FIDE Grand Prix on 13th-29th December. Previous two events took place in Baku and Sochi. Nanjing with six-player double round robin is the strongest tournament to ever be held in China.
The Corus Chess Tournament 2009 will be held from 16 January – 1 February 2009 in Wijk aan Zee. This will be the 71st Corus Chess Tournament and will again be divided into A, B, C, and amateur groups.
The International Chess Festival “Aeroflot Open 2009″ will be held in Moscow from 16 February to 27 February 2008. This will be the 18th edition of the tournament and for the fourth year in a roll the competition will take place in the major tourist complex “Izmailovo” – hotel “Gamma – Delta”.

The participants shall have no FIDE Title or published FIDE Rating above 2000 at the start of the tournament nor had such a rating for at least two years prior to the start of the event.
The Chess Club “A.M.O. Galaxias” announces the International Open Chess Tournament Thessaloniki 2009, which will be held with open participation and nine (9) rounds Swiss system. The tournament will be held in the Grand Hotel Palace, Thessaloniki, from April 27th to May 3rd, 2008. The games will be FIDE rated.
