Brazil Chess Championship

The 75th Chess Championship of Brazil is taking place on 7-16th December in the beautiful city of Porto Alegre, capitol of the southernmost Brazilian state Rio Grande do Sul. Five of the country’s seven Grandmasters have qualified for the 12-player final (Jaime Sunye Neto and Henrique Mecking are not playing).

The Women Chess Super Final will take place December 4-14 in Moscow. Ten of the top women Russian players will participate in the round robin competition.

Torneo Internacional Ciudad de Pamplona

Torneo Internacional Ciudad de Pamplona

The 18th Torneo Internacional Ciudad de Pamplona will take place on 22-29th December. This traditional chess tournament is organized by the Institution Oberena, sponsored by the Government of Navarre and the City council of Pamplona and it is recognized officially by FIDE. The playing system is 7-rounds of round robin and the time control will be 120 minutes for all the moves, with an increment of 30 seconds per move.

6th Mediterranean Championships

“The tournament is kindly being organized once again under the aegis of the Turkish Chess Federation. We have ensured that the event is held for 2008 to ensure that we remain in line with the annual organization of these important Mediterranean events. Once again, several Grandmasters are expected to participate, so a strong competition is anticipated.”
