In total there will be 590 players, 96 of which titled GMs, IMs, WGMs, and FMs. Each team consists of 12 players (5 with no limit, then a woman, a girl under 18, a girl under 16 and boys under 18, 16, 14 and 12,) and reserve players.

The 5th Chess Festival Dieppe will take place on 23rd-29th August 2009 at the Grand Casino de Dieppe. Among the numerous chess activities, the central event will be a rapid match between two young female players – Salomé Neuhauser from France (photo) and Sarah Hegarty from England. The match will consist of four games with the time control of 25 min + 10 sec increment, all games will be presented live at the Le blog de l’Echiquier Dieppois.

The tournament has an international taste this year with the inclusion of four Grandmasters from different countries. The 10-player round robin competition will serve as a qualifier for the Montreal International Chess tournament to be held later in August. The best four will play in the Montreal International. The best placed local player will be crowned Quebec Chess Champion.

Asian Junior Boys and Girls Chess Championship 2009

The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, under the auspicies of the Asian Chess Federation, will conduct the Asian Junior Boys and Girls Chess Championship 2009. This is the most prestigious Chess Event for the Junior players of Under 20 years in Asia and it will take place 1st to 8th July 2009 at Ceylon Continental Hotel, Colombo.

2nd FIDE Women Grand Prix

The 2nd FIDE Women Grand Prix will take place 27th Sept – 9th October 2009 in Nanjing, China. The tournament will be parallel to the first Grand Slam 2009 – 2010 event in Nanjing. 12 of the top women will participate in the Grand Prix. A calendar clash with the European Club Cup was not avoided.

7th Mediterranean Chess Championships

One player each for the Men and Women Championships nominated by each Mediterranean Federation as listed in the MCA statute. If a Federation wishes to have additional players participating, besides those qualified through the normal way and by right, it should apply to the Organizing Committee. A player can participate in the competition only after getting an official consent from the Organizing Federation.
