The International chess tournament Baku Open 2009, devoted to the Independence Day of the Azerbaijan Republic, is taking place from 20th to 30th September 2009 under the patronage of the Azerbaijan Youth & Sport Ministry and the Chess Federation of Azerbaijan. A rich prize fund of USD 60.000$ is allocated for the prizes, with 10.000$ reserved for the winner.

The World Champion, the lndian Vishy Anand, will face the ex World Champion, the Russian, Anatoly Karpov in a rapid match in France. The event will take place in two different cities. The players will start at Bastia on October 31th and later continue in Ajaccio on November 2nd.

The InventiChess event takes place on 18-26th September in the Inventi training center, a hundred meters away from the City Hall in the center of the historical downtown of Antwerp in Belgium. This beautiful renovated historical building was the former house of Peter Benoit, former Belgian composer. Nowadays this house is an inspiring environment where sales reps and managers are trained and sales strategies are developed.

The 2009 Tal Memorial will take place on 5-14th November in Moscow, Russia. According to the September rating list, nine out of eleven top players, including the reigning World Champion Viswanathan Anand, will take participation. Vassily Ivanchuk will defend the last year’s trophy, and Peter Leko and Boris Gelfand are returning to play in their third Tal Memorial.
