22nd Open Internacional Villa de Roquetas

The 22nd Open Internacional Villa de Roquetas will take place from 2nd to 6th January at the Hotel Bahía Serena in Roquetas de Mar, Almería, Spain. Ukrainian Grandmasters Sergey Fedorchuk and Andrey Sumets are leading the field of 140 players. Grandmasters Fidel Corrales and Dragan Paunovic continue the tour after participation in the Open Stadium Casablanca in Zaragoza.

4th International Open Stadium Casablanca

The 4th International Open “Stadium Casablanca” is set to take place from 23rd to 31st December in Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain. 116 players are signed up to now, among them are ten Grandmasters. Top prize is 2000 EUR. Winners of the previous tournaments are GMs Azer Mirzoev and Edouard Romain, and IM Cristhian Cruz.

The 1st Asean Open Championship has 27 participants, among them 8 Grand Masters (GM), 7 International Masters (IM), 6 FIDE Masters (FM) and 1 Candidate Master (CM). The average international rating of all participants is 2385. Five Asean countries are represented: Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia.

On 11th and 12th of December the 5th and 6th round of the Schachbundesliga will take place. Take a look at the pairings at the venues Hamburg, Emsdetten, Trier and Munich. OSG Baden-Baden will play at Hamburg against the host and the team of Berlin. The German Champion and current league leader is odds-on-favourite in both matches. Over 100 players, of which more than 15 titled players, have signed in advance for the 10th Rochefort Open tournament, which is set to take place on 19th-25th February 2011. Next year, the huge Cappelle-la-Grande Open is played one week after Rochefort, so this event could serve a perfect training opportunity.

The 2011 U.S. Championship will feature 16 competitors, which will be split into two round-robin fields of eight, with the top two players from each round robin advancing to a four-player knockout finale. The 2011 U.S. Women’s Championship will see eight players facing off in a preliminary round robin, with the top four players also advancing to a four-player knockout finale.
