3rd Mediterranean Boys and Girls Chess Championships

As a result of the initiative of Mr Sakis Kouvatsos, MCA Treasurer, the Mediterranean Chess Association is please to announce that it will be starting once again to organise the Mediterraean Junior Championships. The tournament is being sponsored by Giannoulis Hotels and Resorts who have also guaranteed the event for three years.

4th International Chess Open Avenida de Canarias

The 4th International Chess Open Avenida de Canarias will take place 18th to 25th of July, 2010 in Vecindario, Santa Lucia, Gran Canaria. A total of 30 titled players have signed up, led by the Spanish young talent GM Ivan Salgado Lopez. There is strong international participation with players like GM Bojan Kurajica, GM Reynaldo Vera Gonzalez-Quevedo, and GM Dragan Barlov, as well as some of the top world female players – IM Tania Sachdev, WGM Anna Rudolf, and WGM Sabrina Vega Gutierrez.

Ten young Grandmasters will be the stars of the 43rd edition of the Biel Chess Festival. The list is headed by last year’s winner Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, and he is joined by Evgeny Tomashevsky, Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So, Dmitry Andreikin, Anish Giri, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Parimarjan Negi, Maxim Rodhstein, and David Howell will enter the category 17 tournament with average rating of 2657 ELO.

Open Chess Tournament Mediterranean 2017

The Chess Club “Rijeka” organizes the 4th open chess tournament “Mediterranean 2017″ from 13 November to 20 November 2010 in the city of Rijeka, located at the North-west part of the Croatian coast of the Adriatic sea. The manifestation is organized for the occasion of the candidacy of the city of Rijeka for organization of the Mediterranean Games in 2017, under the motto “Chess with the scent of the sea”.

The main event is 9-round Swiss tournament with FIDE time control which will be valid for FIDE rating and GM/IM norms. In addition, the 6th “Uroš Dinić” Memorial will commence as 15-minute per player rapid tournament on the main event’s rest day – Sunday, 11th July.

HSG Open 2010

The HSG Open 2010 is starting today and continues over 9 rounds of Swiss system until 4th July. The playing venue is Hotel Lapershoek in Hilversum, Netherlands. The tournament is organized by Hilversum Chess Club HSG, Dutch Champion in 2008 and 2009, and is split into two rating groups.

Each championship will be comprised of a 10-player field and will feature nine rounds of tournament play. Reigning U.S. Women’s Champion Anna Zatonskih and current U.S. Junior Champ Ray Robson aim to defend their respective titles this year in Saint Louis against a strong field of contenders.

4th Memorial Vicente Sebastian

The 4th Memorial Vicente Sebastian will take place on 2nd and 3rd July 2010 at the Sala multiusos Fornells in Menorca, Spain. The time control will be 15 minutes + 5 seconds per move per player, and the tournament will be played over 8 or 9 rounds, depending on the number of participants (maximum 120). Grandmaster lectures and arbiter seminars are set to take place on the morning of 3rd July.

FIDE Women Grand Prix in Jermuk

The FIDE Women Grand Prix series continues with Jermuk tournament which will take place on 23rd June – 6th July 2010 in Jermuk, Armenia. The winner of each tournament will win 6,500 euros out of a prize fund of 40,000 euros and the overall winner of the series will win a further 15,000 euros at the end of the series.

Marrakech International Chess Tournament

Marrakech International Chess Tournament

The first Marrakech International Chess Tournament is taking place from 25th June to 2nd July in Marrakech, Morocco. Players from 23 countries registered thus far, among them are 37 Grandmasters. Nine rounds according to Swiss system will be played, with time control of 75 minutes per player.
