Arkadij Naiditsch and Zahar Efimenko will play a chess match 12-18.08.2010 in Mukachevo, Ukraine. The match will consist of six classical games. The opening will take place on the 11th of August in the Transcarpathian Regional State Russian Drama Theatre. The match will be accompanied by Open, Rapid, Blitz, children’s Open, a session of simultaneous games tournaments.
The 14th Hogeschool Zeeland Chess Tournament is set to take place on 7-14th August in Vlissingen, Netehrlands. The tournament is organised by the Stichting Schaak Walcheren, and consists of 9 rounds, Swiss system. The rate of play is 40 moves in 2 hours, followed by 30 minutes for the completion of the game. A bye is only possible in the 2nd and 3rd round.
The Board of Directors of the Trinidad and Tobago Chess Foundation extends an invitation to all Chess players and Federations to participate in the 8th edition of the Caribbean Chess Carnival. Top rated player is GM Gennady Sagalchik from USA.
The tournament already has 293 players from 27 countries signed to take participation. Among them are 20 Grandmasters and eight players rated above 2600 FIDE. Top seed is Ukraine’s highest rated player GM Pavel Eljanov.
The tenth edition of the Chess Classic Mainz is just days away. From 6-8th August 2010, Mainz will be the centre of the rapid chess world. As we have announced earlier, the organizing Chess Tigers had to cut down the event to three days, but the Chess Classic is still the main rapid chess event in the world.
Brunei Invitational IM Tournament 1 and 2 will feature International Masters Oliver Barbosa (Philippines), Nguyen Van Nuy and Duong The Anh (Vietnam) and Women Grand Master Irene Kharisma Sukandar (Indonesia) who together with FIDE Masters Yee Soon Wai (Brunei) and Ramanath Bhuvanesh (India) and long standing junior talent Md Aliuddin Hj Azahari (Brunei) are expected to be the main contenders for IM title norms.
The 4th International Chess Tournament A.D. San Juan is taking place from 24th July to 1st August at the Hotel “Iruña Park” in Pamplona, Spain. In addition, a 9-round open tournament worth 17,000 EUR is prizes will take place from 26th July to 1st August at the same venue. So far 130 players have signed to participate, among them are 22 Grandmasters.
The 1th edition of the International Chess Tournament Fermo-Porto San Giorgio will take place 21-29 August, 2010, at the Astoria Hotel in Fermo (5 minutes from Porto San Giorgio on the sea). The tournament already features a strong list of players, headed by GM David Alberto (LUX), followed by GM Vladimir Epishin, GM Leon Hoyos, GM Malaniuk and GM Matamoros. Other Grandmasters will be invited soon.
After the fantastic World Amateur Chess Championship, amateur chess events are on the rise. The latest example is the Belogradchik Chess Festival, that will take place September 5th-12th, 2010.
The Spanish rapid chess championship – Campeonato de ajedrez rapido – is taking place 10th to 11th of July 2010 in Benasque, Spain. A total of 44 players have signed up for the event. Top seeded is the Spanish young talent GM Ivan Salgado Lopez. His main competition will come from GM Arizmendi, GM Cifuentes, GM Khamrakulov, GM Gomez, IM Llaneza Vega, IM Lariño Nieto, IM Almagro Llamas, and IM Garbisu De Goni. Ivan Salgado Lopez, however, is the only player from the Olympic team of Spain will participate in the rapid championship.
