Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival 2011

The new primary sponsors, Tradewise Insurance Company Ltd, have
enabled the prize fund to be increased to £126,000, with £17,500 going
to the winner of the Gibraltar Masters, £10,000 to the top woman
scorer and two extra rating prizes (of £2,000 and £1,000) being
awarded to each of two further rating bands.

China – Russia Chess Match

The match is a ‘Scheveningen’ team event between China team and Russia team. All members of each team play all members of the other team once, games start on 5th August and continue to 10th August. Then follows three-days Rapid match, two rounds each day at 9:00 and 14:00, from 11th to 13th August 2010. On 14th August 2010 rapid games start at 8:00 and 13:00.

György Marx Memorial 2010

The György Marx Memorial 2010 will feature six Grandmasters – Zoltan Almasi (the first 2700+ player at the event), Ferenc Berkes, Viktor Laznicka, Peter Acs, Jan Timman, and Ray Robson (the first American ever to participate). The event is double round robin and will take place in Paks, Hungary, 5th – 16th August 2010. The average rating of the participants is 2629, which makes it category 16 event.

Following the 3rd Magistral Ciudad de Asunción Copa Roggio and Magistral Bicentenario Independencia de Colombia, the tournament circuit on the South American continent continues with Festival Paulista de Xadrez 2010, which is set to take place in Santos, Brazil.

Certainly one of the Europe’s “highest” chess meetings, as it takes place in Livigno, a village situated on the Italian Alps between 1,800 and 2,200 metres (5,900 and 6,900 feet respectively) above sea level. Livigno also enjoys a particular tax exemption, which makes this probably the first duty-free international tournament ever organized.

The tournament will be played according to Swiss System and over 6 rounds. After the 6th game, top eight players in the general standing will engage in a playoff (qualifying rounds) to clarify the final standings from 1st to 8th. The players winning a game qualify for next round. Meanwhile, all other players will continue with another three rounds of the Swiss System to clarify the final standings from 9th place onwards.

Final Chess Masters 2010

The competition will consist of two parts. The first one will be a qualification tournament in Shanghai with the participation of Hao Wang, Alexey Shirov, Levon Aronian, and Vladimir Kramnik. Two players from Shanghai will qualify for the final in Bilbao, where they will meet Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand.
