World Senior Chess Championship 2010

The title of “Grandmaster” will be conferred to the winner of the 20th FIDE World Senior Chess Championship 2010 who will receive the Gold medal. The second place will receive a Silver medal, the third place is awarded a Bronze medal. The same rules for the medals award are applied to the participating women players, who play separately within their own tournament.

World Youth Chess Championships sets record

World Youth Chess Championships sets record

World Youth Chess Championships 2010 will take place in Porto Carras, Greece, from 19th to 31st October. The competition will be the largest FIDE event of all times. A new record of participation is ready to be set with over 1400 participants from over 80 countries!

Round 1 is on October 20th at 16:00 local time (15:00 CEST, 11:00 GMT). The opening ceremony is right before the round.

U.S. Chess Championships return to St. Louis in 2011

Tony Rich, executive director of the CCSCSL, said the 2011 event will, once again, raise the bar for U.S. Championship chess. “We are thrilled to once again host these two prestigious tournaments, and as always, we are working hard to make these events more exciting than ever,” Rich said.

More than 40 titled players will participate in this year’s edition of the Women European Club Cup. Top rated is the ex World Champion Antoaneta Stefanova, follwed by her teammate and World Blitz Champion GM Kateryna Lahno, IM Harika Dronavalli, GM Cmylite, GM Chiburdanidze, and 19 more IM players.

Top seeded is the team of AVS with average ELO of 2511, follwed by SPb Chess Club 2474, and Samaia Tbilisi 2464.

The season starts with some top games in Baden-Baden. The four teams involved in this venue present 27 grandmasters and some really interesting faces and players. The top game of the weekend takes place between Baden-Baden and Solingen on Saturday.

53rd Torneo di Capodanno in Reggio Emilia

From December 28th 2010 to January 6th 2011 the 53rd edition of the international chess tournament “Torneo di Capodanno” will be played in Reggio Emilia. Free day is on January 1st and opening ceremony takes place on December 28th, morning. Games starting daily from 14:30. The tournament will be played at hotel Astoria Mercure.
