Nagpur (28 Apr 10): Grandmaster Sriram Jha of Life Insurance Corporation of India will start as top seed and favourite in the 3rd edition of Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee Memorial All India Open Fide Rated Chess Tournament organized by Headquarters Maintenance Command Indian Air Force at Naivedhyam Celebration Centre here on Friday.

This prestigious event will be inaugurated by Air Marshal PV Athawale PVSM AVSM VSM ADC, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Headquarters Maintenance Command.

International Masters S Satyaprgyan, C S Gokhale of Air India, K Rathnakaran, Saptarshi Roy, D P Singh of Railways, Himanshu Sharma of Haryana, Rahul Sangma of Delhi are other prominent players in the fray and will give tough fight to Jha’s title hopes in this Rs. 4 lakh prize money event.

International Masters Vidit Santosh Gujarathi, Anup Deshmukh and Amravati youngster Swapnil Dhopade will spearhead the Maharashtra hopes while Wing Commander Rajesh Upadhyay along with National Team Chess Championship board prize winner Junior Warrant Officer L D Rao and Sergeant K Srikanth will lead Air Force Challenge.

The winner will pocket a cash prize of Rs. 81,000/- along with coveted Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee Memorial trophy while top twenty players will receive cash prizes. Cash prizes will also be awarded as special prizes for nine other different categories.

For the records, with two days still to come, the organizers already have over 250 confirmed entries and the figure should cross the 300 mark and offers excellent opportunities for the budding youngsters to make or improve their International Ratings.
