Six-player double round robin on 2-12th November in Vrsac
The 16th Bora Kostic Memorial, honoring the first chess globetrotter, is taking place from 2nd to 12th November in Vrsac, the city of his birth.
Six players are competing in the double round robin tournament: Vasil Spasov (BUL 2621), Ivan Ivanisevic (SRB 2613), Aleksandar Kovacevic (SRB 2582), Vladislav Nevednichy (ROM 2577), Boban Bogosavljevic (SRB 2554) and Nikola Sedlak (SRB 2550).
Nikola Sedlak is defending the first place from the 15th Memorial, which he shared together with the Greek Grandmaster Stelios Halkias. He is also the reigning Serbian champion and first board of the Serbian Olympic team.
From Wikipedia: “From 1923–1926, (Grandmaster) Kostic traveled all over the world, including Australia, the Far East, Africa, India and Siberia, demonstrating his exceptional skills, generating interest in chess and forging new links with people across the globe. He was undoubtedly a brilliant publicist and ambassador for the game, although this probably prevented him from realizing his full potential as a player.” A street in Belgrade’s modern suburb Bezanijska Kosa is named after him.
