A new International Open in Lido Adriano – Ravenna in Italy will take place from 2-10 April 2011. A €10,000 Prize Fund (first prize €2,500), 10 invited GMs and a highlight of the tournament: Judit Polgar will be present and will give a simultaneous on 9 April.
Already, the number of registered players exceeds the number of participants at last year’s event, but the MP Reykjavík Open is very popular with chess players due to the excellent playing venue and atmosphere, and many chess players return year after year.
The Chess Association of “Khorasan-Razavi” province on behalf of I.R.Iran Chess Federation has the honor to invite all chess players from national federations to participate in the 19th Fajr International Chess Open Tournament that will be held in Mashhad, northeastern of Iran, from 25 February – 7 March, 2011.
The 3rd Chennai International Open Chess Tournament will take place from 17th to 26th January 2011 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Multipurpose indoor stadium, in Chennai, India. The tournament is organised by Sports Promotion Foundation, Under the guidance of Tamilnadu State Chess Association and All India Chess Federation.
The latest news is that Armenian Chess Federation has decided to postpone the start of the Championship until January 17th. With this decision federation wants to allow time for GM Zaven Andriasian to recover from illness and take participation in the Championship.
Participation in the 9th Khazar international chess cup is open to all. Each national federation has right to nominate and send one player (rated 2300 or higher) as official invited player. Tournament will carry on in 6 open groups.
The Championship will be played in six categories: for players under 7, 9, 11, 13 ,15, 17 years old. In the previous Championship there were about 350 players from over 30 countries. The expected number of players in the next year competition is about 400 and about 150 accompanying persons.
The reigning World Champion Viswanathan Anand will play a rapid match against the 17th World Champion, and currently his second, Rustam Kasimdzhanov. The event is set to take place in March in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, immediately after the traditional Georgi Agzamov memorial.
The event will see 25 Grandmasters in action in a field of around 400 players from more than 20 countries. Ukrainian Grandmaster Areshchenko Alexander will start as the rating favourite in the event while newly crowned National Champion Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi and Grandmaster Abhijeet Gupta will spearhead the Indian challenge.
The Vietnam Chess Federation is organizing the 1st HDBank Cup Open 2011 which to be held from 4th to 9th January 2011 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Top local players, Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and Cao Sang are taking participation, in addition to the strong rosters from China and Philippines.
