The European Chess Union, Italian chess Federation and Comité Valdôtain d’Echecs organize the 11th European Senior Chess Championship on 6-14 April 2011, in Courmayeur, Aosta Valley – Italy. The European Senior Chess Rapid 2011 will take place a bit earlier, on 4-5 April 2011, in the same playing venue.

The most important match of the weekend will take place in Bremen. The only serious contender of Baden-Baden is facing the strong team of Mülheim. Bremen needs to win in order not to lose the contact to the top of the table. The match starts on Saturday on 2pm and will be broadcasted live in the net as any other games from the Schachbundesliga.

Metropolitan Chess will host an International Master norm round robin tournament on February 23rd to 27th of 2011. This tournament is titled the 3rd Metropolitan FIDE Invitational and will be held in Suite C998 of the California Market Center on 110 East 9th Street, Los Angeles 90079.

The 10th Asian Continental Individual Championship and First Asian Individual Blitz Championship (Open and Women’s) is scheduled to take place from 1st to 11th May at the Hotel Pardisan, in Mashhad, Iran. Members of all FIDE Affiliated Chess Federations in Asia, Zones 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7 are eligible to take participation.

The 27th edition of Cappelle La Grande will feature over 100 Grandmasters and 300 titled players. Top seeded is GM Krishnan Sasikiran (India), who will be aiming at the 2700 club once again. His main competition comes from 12 more players over 2600 ELO, among which GM Zhigalko, GM Kryvoruchko, GM Macieja, GM Delchev, GM Mareco, GM Gurevich, GM Vuckovic, GM Pantsulaia, GM Burmakin, and GM Iturrizaga.

The Doeberl Cup is held in Canberra over Easter each year attracting a field of over 200 players. There are five separate tournaments each year. The Premier tournament runs for 9 FIDE rated rounds and has had titled players from Australia, Russia, India, Ukraine, Israel, Spain, Hungary, Serbia, Ecuador and the Philippines. The 7-round FIDE rated Major tournament is for players with an ACF rating between 1400 and 2000.

The FIDE Women Grand Prix series has its sixth and final tournament set to take place from 20th February to 6th March in Doha, Qatar. 12 players will compete in the round robin event. The winner of each tournament will win 6,500 euros out of a prize fund of 40,000 euros and the overall winner of the series will win a further 15,000 euros at the end of the series.
