The 1st International Tournament Isthmia 2011 is set to take place from 18th to 25th August at the “Alkyon” Hotel in Vrachati, Korinthia, Greece. The tournament will be 9-rounds Swiss event, divided in two rating groups. The organizers are Pnevmatiki Stegi Peristeriou, Korinthia Chess Academy “Argonaftis”, Prefecture of Peloponnisos and Municipality of Velo Vocha.

The tournament is organised by the All Orissa Chess Association and KiiT University, Bhubaneswar, under the guidance of All India Chess Federation. The total prize fund is $31,000 approx.

The Armenian Chess Federation is organizing the 4th Annual Karen Asrian Memorial which will take place from 15th to 25th June, 2011, in the prominent resort town of Jermuk. All interested chess players can participate in the 9-round Swiss tournament. The total prize fund amounts to 15,000 US dollars. Last year winner was GM Tigran Kotanjian.

Chinese League 2011 is taking place from 12th April to 6th December. 10 teams compete with the double round robin system within 18 rounds, divided into weekends throughout the year. After first three rounds Shanghai Team leads the scoreboard. Rounds 4-6 will be played in Chengdu on 26-28th May.

Grand Slam Final in Bilbao and Sao Paulo

The top chess players will once again meet each other in the 2011 Grand Slam Final, which will be played 25 September to 11 October. The tournament picks up a Linares type model, making the tournament a double round robin and splitting the event between two venues – Sao Paulo and Bilbao.

The prize fund for the various events is 320,000 USD but all players will be guaranteed a minimum prize / fee of 4,000 USD for open event participants and 2,000 USD for the womens’ event participants. This minimum guarantee is only valid for those players who will not have won any prize money from any of the events or whose total prize money may be less than the amount guaranteed.

3rd Lublin Union Memorial

The 3rd International Grandmasters’ Tournament the Lublin Union Memorial is starting on Sunday in Lublin, Poland, and continues until 21st May. Eight Grandmasters will play in the round-robin tournament with the average elo of 2680. The Lublin Union Memorial events are organized for the purpose of promoting city’s candidacy for the status of 2016 European Capital of Culture.
