Benidorm Open 2007

April 22 – May 1

The City Hall of Benidorm together with Chess Club Benidorm organize the 20th edition of the tournament Benidorm Open. After more than 10 years of interruption the tournament comes back with a strong field and a solid prize fund of 30 000 eur.

The tournament will take at the 4 start Hotel Deloix. It is a fantastic place, close to the beach. The atmosphere inside provides all necessary conditions for a strong tournament as this year’s one. A special thanks go to the sponsors – CAM (Caja de Ahorros del Mediterraneo).

More than a hundred players will participate in the event. We are going to see the Spanish tournaments lover, GM Kevin Spraggett (ELO 2611). He has just finished playing in San Sebastian, where he tied for first place second consecutive year in a row. Now he will try to conquer the Spanish beach of Benidorm and surely is one of the favorites for the title.

The list continues with GM Boris Chatalbashev (ELO 2546). The Bulgarian has just become national champion and comes to show champion’s play. In Benidorm we will also see GM M. Mchedlishvili (ELO 2609), GM Aleksa Strikovic (ELO 2563), GM Vladimir Georgiev (ELO 2540), and the top seeded GM M. Gagunashvili (ELO 2625). A very balanced and exciting lineup.

Chessdom will provide daily updates on the tournament and you will be able to replay the pgn games.
