Corus Wijk aan Zee will be the first event of the Chess Grand Slam. As expected it will be one of the strongest tournaments in world's history, having a category 20 and average rating of 2741 according to the October FIDE rating list. Among the players are all top 5, 8 of the top 10, 12 of the top 20. No matter how we say it, it will be an exciting event.

Honorary four-event match at Corus 2008

Besides the main event the organizers include a special honorary four-event match with GM Viktor Kortchnoi, GM Lajos Portisch, GM Jan Timman, and GM Ljubomir Ljubojevic. It will be an interesting clash of experience, fame, and caffeine.
