The European School Chess Championship, part of the Games Festival 2010, will start on Kirsan Ilyumzhinov’s birthday (5th of April) in Thessaloniki. It will be a 9 round swiss event divided into age groups, with high quality accommodation at Grand hotel Palace (5 stars) and Mediterranean Hotel Palace.

Each National Federation or School Association or schools may enter an unlimited number of players in each of the 12 age groups. In case that one girl group is less than 10 participants then it will be merged with the same open age group category.

The 5 first winners (U9, U11, U13, U15, and U17) and the 5 Girls winners (U9, U11, U13, U15, and U17) will play as invited players (free accommodation) in the 2010 World School Chess Championship on July 2010 in Turkey.

The 5 second winners (U9, U11, U13, U15, and U17) and the 5 second Girls winners (U9, U11, U13, U15, and U17) will have 50% discount in their accommodation package in the 2010 World Youth Chess Championship on November 2010 in Greece. The invitation is a very kind offer the Organising Committee “Porto Carras WYCC 2010″.

The 6th Games Festival 2010 will be organized from 4th to 18th April in the city of Thessaloniki, Greece. This annual and extremely popular gathering includes following chess events in the program:

A) European Individual School Championship, on 5th (1st round) – 11th (last round) April 2010

B) Fide Arbiter Seminar (7-10 April)

C) International Open Tournament “Alexander the Great”, on 5th (1st round) – 11th (last round) April 2010

D) International Open Blitz Tournament, on 11th April 2010

E) European Seniors’ Individual Rapid Championship, on 7-9th April 2010

F) European Seniors’ Individual Championship, on 10-18th April 2010
