16th Fajr International Open

2nd-10th February in Orumieh, Iran

The 16th Fajr International Open Tournament is set to take place on 2nd-10th February in Orumieh in West-Azerbaijan, province of Iran. Already fantastic prize fund of $18.000 USD in the main event was extended with additional $6.000 USD for the 1st Women’s Open.

Each national chess federation has the right to consign one player as officially invited by Iran Chess Federation. The Organizing Committee will generously provide free participation, domestic airplane transfer (from Tehran to Orumieh and return) and full board accommodation for officially invited players. Grandmasters and +2500 rated chess players are eligible for the equal conditions.

Men rated between 2400-2499 FIDE and women rated higher than 2000 FIDE are eligible for 50% discount on accommodation costs. For all the other players, full board per day is $40 USD.

The Fajr International Open Tournament (both groups) will be played in 11 rounds using the Swiss System. The time control is 90 minutes for the whole game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move one. First prize in men’s event is $3.500 USD, while $1.500 is reserved for the best women (both groups will have 10 prizes). Last year’s tournament had 240 participants.
