The 7th Gausdal Classics International Chess Tournament will take place on April 18th-26th in Gausdal, Norway. The organizer Hans Olav Lahlum has put together round robin GM Group “A” with 10 players, 9-round Swiss GM Group “B” and 9-round Swiss “Elo Group” for players rated above 1900 FIDE.

Same as last year, star of the main round robin tournament will be Norwegian GM Magnus Carlsen, who is testing his form before the Candidate Matches to be held next month in Elista. Hungarian legend GM Lajos Portisch, who just celebrated his 70th birthday, is back in on the board after some period of inactivity. US top female player IM Irina Krush will be trying to achieve GM norm, she missed one at the recently played Foxwood Open.

Other players in the main event are GM Michal Krasenkov (POL 2661), GM Alexei Dreev (RUS 2633), GM Eduardas Rozentalis (LIT 2578), GM Kjetil A. Lie (NOR 25259), GM Kaido Kulaots (EST 2525), IM Gawain Jones (ENG 2524) and Eric Moskow (USA 2260).

A solid number of Grandmasters have already registered for the GM Group “B”: Tomas Oral of Czech, Igors Rausis of Lithuania, Milos Pavlovic of Serbia, Dimitri Reinderman of Netherlands and Heikki Westerinen of Finland.
