Gausdal Classics 2008 will be in Thon Hotel Gausdal, formerly Gausdal Høifjellshotell, in Norway. It will be a 9 rounds round robin event with time control 40 moves in 2 hours, 20 moves in 1 hour and ½ hour for the rest.
The number one seeded will be the top Greek GM Vasilios Kotronias. He will have strong opposition by GM Bartlomiej Macieja and GM Gregory Kaidanov. India will have strong chances as well, with two of the fastest progresing GMs - G.N. Gopal and Chanda Sandipan. The local top player GM Kjetil A. Lie will seek a good performance together with his countrymate IM Øystein Hole. GM Vyacheslav Ikonikov will come with solid experience, while IM Irina Krush and Erik Moscow will be seeking norms (GM-norm us at 5½ points, IM-norm 3½ points).
The GM A top prize is 1300 eur, and prizes will be given to the top players in each group including cash and trolls (last year Magnus Carlsen himself won the troll)

Parallel to the A tournament there will be a Gausdal Classics B and ELO events. The total number of players signed up until March 8 in both events exceeded 100. The GM B minimum is 2150 ELO, while the ELO event is minimum 1900 ELO. Both events will be 9 round swiss tournaments.
