Ikaros Chess Festival 2007 will take place in Agios Kirykos, Ikaria island, in Greece, from July 4th until July 17th 2007. This is the 30th consecutive Ikaros Chess Festival taking place in Ikaria. This year Ikaros Festival includes eight (8) tournaments. Five of the tournaments offer accommodation privileges for the winners while the remaining three offer a total prize fund of 3300 eur.
Ladies Tournament, Jounior Tournament, and Veterans Tournament of Agios Kirykos 2007 will take place 4-6 July 2007. They will be a 5 round Swiss or Round-Robin tournaments with time control sixty minutes plus 30 seconds per move. The participation (in the respective sections) is open to female chess players, jouniors, and veterans (over 55 years old) regardless of rating or title.
The Ikaros Chess Festival 2007 will host two rapid tournaments - an open event and a junior team event. Both will be a seven rounds Swiss tournaments with time control fifteen minutes plus 10 seconds per move. FIDE Rapid Rules will apply.
This tournament will take place on the 11th of July. It will be a seven (7) round Swiss tournament with thinking time limited to five (5) minutes for each player for the whole game. FIDE Blitz Rules apply. Participation is again unrestricted and the prizes are € 75 for the first, € 45 for the second and € 30 for the third.
The Aegean Open Championship 2007 will be held from the 7th until the 15th of July. It will be a nine (9) rounds Swiss tournament. Thinking time will be ninety (90) minutes plus 30 seconds per move (from move 1) for the completion of the game for each player. Rounds start at 19:00. The total prize fund is 3000 eur. The winner takes 800 eur. There are special prizes for the best veteran, lady, and junior.
No major chess festival can be without a blindfol event. It will take place on the 16th of July and is carried out without the use of chessboards. Thinking time is limited to twenty-five minutes per player for the duration of the game.
Ikaria beach
The entry fee for the Aegean Championship is € 30 (this fee does not apply to holders of international titles, chess-players that have already qualified, members of the Ikaria Chess Club and Ikarian chess-players regardless of the club they belong to).
For a limited number of contestants-the ones that have entered their participation for the event by the 25th of June -the latest- a special discount price applies which includes ferry tickets (C class on commercial ferries), accommodation costs (in double rooms, no food expenses included) and entry fees. This special price is set at € 125 per person for the period from the 4th until the 6th of July, € 240 per person for the period from the 7th until the 15th of July, and, € 300 per person for the period from the 4th until the 15th of July.
Players requesting for some special room conditions or wish to spend some extra days in Ikaria should notify the organizers in advance. Additional fees will be charged according to the conditions requested.
For families (at least 3 members), four-member (at least) teams, players under the age of 20 and natives the costs of participation will be subsidized by the organizers up to 20% of the whole price so the respective prices are set to € 100 (4-6 July), € 190 (7-15 July) and € 240 (4-15 July)
Note: The above prices are also valid for the accompanying persons.
For the IMs/WIMs, the GMs/WGMs and the players that have qualified from preliminary events, the organization committee covers for round trip (Piraeus-Ikaria-Piraeus) ferry tickets (tourist class on commercial ferries) and accommodation (two-bed en-suite room, no food expenses included) costs. Additionally GMs and WGMs will receive € 1 (one euro) for every rating point above 2400.

The criteria for a ruling when faced with a situation of a score tie in any of the Swiss tournaments (unless there is a different clause stated in a complementary edition of the set rules) are: 1) Bucholtz 2) Median Bucholtz 3) Number of wins 4) Sum of progressive scores. For Round-Robin tournaments the tie-breaks are: 1) The results of the games between the players with equal scores 2) Sonnenborg-Berger 3) Number of wins. However, the money-prizes are divided equally among the players with the same final score.
