III International Open ITT – José Marca Memorial

10-18th January in Lima, Peru

The III International Open ITT “José Marca Memorial”, organized by the Peruvian Chess Club, Chess Club Magdalena, under the auspices of the University of Lima and various lovers of the game, will take place on 10-18th January in Lima, Peru. The playing venue is Sports Complex at the University of Lima located at Av. Las Palmas No.179 – Urb. Mayorazgo – La Molina.

The purpose of the tournament is to raise awareness, motivate and encourage the practice of the beloved sport. Furthermore, chess officials from Peru intend to promote their country as one of the main organizers of high-level tournaments in South America.

The event will consist of 11 rounds of Swiss system, with time control of 90 minutes per player plus 30 seconds per move (with digital clocks) or total time of 2 hours for each player (with analog clocks).

Grandmasters and International Masters (men and women) will have full board covered by the organizing committee. Entry fee is 30 USD, and total prize fund is about 8.500 USD, with special prizes for rating and age groups.

European Champion for 2008, GM Sergey Tiviakov (NED 2685), has confirmed participation. GM Bartlomiej Macieja (POL 2600) is also going across the ocean. GM Julio Granda Zuniga (2628) and GM Emilio Cordova Daza (2533) will lead the Peruvian challenge. Other strong local players are FM Renato Terry Luján (2349, U-18), WFM Ann Chumpitaz Carbajal (2064, U-16), WIM Deysi Cori Tello (2279, U-16), FM Jorge Cori Tello (2380, U-14) and FM Carmelo Gutierrez (2289).
