9 rounds, 8.500 Euro prize fund in each
Chess organizers from the Greek island of Crete are preparing two consecutive open tournaments to take place in July this year. International Open chess tournament Rethymno 2009 is scheduled for 12-19th July, and after a day of break, the 2nd Paleohora International Open Chess Tournament launches on 21st July and concludes on the 28th.
Both tournaments are boasting prize funds of around 8.500 Euros, with very favourable conditions for titled players. Even the mere “mortals” will be offered with cheap accommodation at the peak of touristic season, prices ranging from 20 to 50 Euro per day. Nine rounds of swiss system will be played with time control of 90min +15min after move 40 +30sec from the first move, chief arbiter is IA Sotiris Logothetis.
