Strong chess tournament starts in Spain

XVIII Torneig Internacional d’Escacs Ciutat de Reus

A strong open traditional tournament starts today, June 21st, in Spain. It will feature 124 players from 15 countries, with 12 GMs, 10 IMs, and a total of 30 titled players. Top seeded will be GM Serggy Fedorchuk (UKR, ELO 2671), followed by the medalist from the ETCC GM Alexander Delchev (BUL, ELO 2639), and GM Nidjjt Memedov (AZE, ELO 2577). In the participants list we see GM Epishin, GM Sebastian Maze, GM Azer Mizorev, GM Rasul Ibrahimov. The top seeded local player will be GM Marc Dublan Narciso.

This is the 18th edition of the tournament and will be played in Reus (Catalunia). It will be a 9 round swiss tornament with rapid time control of 20 minutes per player. The winner receives 500 eur + a trophy and prizes are given up to 8th place. There are also special prizes for the best woman, the best veteran, the best U2200, and several junior prizes.
