The 15th annual Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament will take place on April 18th-26th in Malmö, Sweden. The time control is classical - 40 moves for 2 hours, 20 moves for 1 hour and 30 minutes for the rest of the game. Same as last year, GM Stellan Brynell will provide game commentary for the audience at the Hipp Theater in central Malmö.
The list of participants is very interesting. GM Jan Timman of Holland will be aiming for the third consecutive win at the Sigeman & Co tournament. Last year he was first ahead of Suat Atalik and Tiger Hillarp-Persson, and two years ago he tied the first place with the Indian star Krishnan Sasikiran.
Top rated invitee and Timman's biggest competitor will be Bulgarian young lion GM Ivan Cheparinov. He is well known as a member of Veselin Topalov's team over the last few years and apostrophed by many as the key figure in Topalov's explosive rise to the World Championship title. It is obvious that the work with Topalov had positive influence of Cheparinov's play as well, his rating has been constantly growing.
Sigeman & Co are well known for giving opportunities to young players to test themselves against strong competitors and gain further chess affirmation. Two years ago the event saw American GM Hikaru Nakamura, and this time the organizers have invited the world’s youngest grandmaster Parimarjan Negi of India.
Greek champion GM Vassilios Kotronias, who now lives in Skara, Sweden, and Dutch's most promising young Grandmaster - Erwin L'Ami - are closing the list of international players.
Five players, who have all played in Sigeman tournaments before, will represent Sweden. National's top rated 25-yeard old Emanuel Berg will try to fight for the first place. The record holder with thirteen tournaments is the aggressive and uncompromising GM Jonny Hector. Fresh writer, author of the highly praised "Tiger's Modern", GM Tiger Hillarp-Persson is making his 6th appearance. Soon-to-be Swedish youngest Grandmaster Pontus Carlsson and Vassily Ivanchuk's second IM Emil Hermansson are also a guarantee for a fantastic tournament.
