Spice cup to break the record again

The 2009 Spice Cup will take place 19-29 September in USA. It will feature many top players breaking the record for US round robin event for a second consecutive year. The 2008 SPICE Cup was a category 15 event, the highest rated 10 player International round robin tournament in U.S. history. The 2009 SPICE Cup will be at least a category 16 event.

The rating average of the group according to the July rating list is 2643,5, the average age is 20 years. It will be an intersting clash of young talents, ready to jump into the heat of the 2700 club in the years to come.

GM Rauf Mamedov 2645 – AZZE (#5 player in Azerbaijan)

GM Yuriy Kuzubov 2635 – UKR (#8 junior under 20 in the world – #12 in Ukraine)

GM Varuzhan Akobian 2626 – USA (#6 in the U.S. – 2008 SPICE Cup Co-Champion – 2-time Olympiad Bronze Medalist)
