The 9th Open Internacional Vila de Salou is taking place on May 3rd-11th at the Hotel Negresco Princess in Tarragona. The event is part of the 4th Circuit Catala which carries a total prize fund of 175.000 euros. Vila de Salou itself will feature a 7.000 euros prize. The tournament will have 9 rounds and the entry fee is 50 euros.

List of the players registered so far includes GM Kevin Spraggett (CAN 2611), Benidorm Open winner GM Ibragim S. Khamrakulov (ESP 2545), GM Seget Fedorchuk (UKR 2603), GM Vladimir Epishin (RUS 2564), GM Sergey Kalinitschew (GER 2488), GM Felix Levin (GER 2510), GM Azer Mirzoev (AZE 2580), GM Ruslan Pogorelov (UKR 2441) and a number of strong IMs. Peter Doggers, ChessVibes editor-in-chief, will also participate.

The Romanian Chess Grand Prix is also going on. Currently the open tournament in Timisoara is close to its end.The next GP event is the 3rd Galati Chess Open starting May 8th. There will be a 9 rounds (swiss system) and the rate of play will be 1 hour 45 minutes for 40 moves, then 1 hour until the end of the game. The prize fund is 8.000 euros, the entry fee is 20 euros.

The 25th Liechtenstein Open will be held on May 11th-19th in the city of Triesen. The tournament will be a qualification for the women MonRoi GrandPrix. 9 rounds are to be played and the prize fund is CHF 15.000. Internationale Stuttgarter Stadtmeisterschaft is taking place on May 17th-20th at the Stadthalle Gerlingen, Germany. The time control is 2 hours for 40 moves + 30 minutes till the end, there will be 7 rounds and the prize fund is 7000 euros. Among registered so far are GMs Sergey Ovsejevitsch, Stanislav Savchenko, Slavko Cicak, Gerhard Schebler, Viesturs Meijers and Aleksander Karpatchev.

ASD Caissa Italia is organizing the 1st Capo d'Orso International Chess Festival in Porto Mannu on Sardinia, Italy. The organizers' main aim is to provide unforgettable chess and vacation experience with private white sand beach, swimming pools, beauty centers etc. A whole bunch of famous writers are invited to host morning lectures: GM Jonathan Rowson, GM Mihail Marin, GM Carlos Matamoros, IM Roberto Mogranzini and IM Jacob Aagaard.
