Promo-Echecs has been organising the Val-Thorens chess festival for 33 years. In 2010, our chess festival leaves Val-Thorens and will move to Vaujany, still in the heart of French Alps but now in the Oisans range, located about 50 kilometers south of Grenoble.
The 2010 festival will occur from July 10 to July 18th. Vaujany sits in a landscape of lakes and mountains, close to the famous "Glandon" and "Croix de Fer" passes (for those who are interested in the "Tour de France" history, or who simply like biking).
As previously, our festival will offer three tournaments:
- The Principal, for strong players with an Elo rating above 1850
- The "Accession", for players with an Elo rating between 1450 and 1900
- The "Petit'Zélos" (small Elos), introduced last summer, for unrated players and for players with an Elo rating below 1500
The tournaments will occur in the wonderful "Espace Loisirs" room, which can accommodate very easily up to 250 players. So don't hesitate to come, there will be room for everybody!
The registration rights remain unchanged:
Principal 56 € for seniors and 28 € for youngsters
Accession 48 € and 24 €
Petit’Zélos 30 € and 15 €
The arbiters will be Jean-Sébastien TROCHET and Claire PERNOUD, already known and appreciated by all those who participated in the previous years.
The prize fund of this first Festival will stay at a high standard with about 9000 € which will be distributed. The winner of the Principal tournament will get 1400 € and as usual, 75% of the registration rights will be redistributed, with prices per class of Elo range in each tournament, made possible by the strong support of Vaujany city.
In order to minimize zeitnots, the time control will be 1h40 / 40 moves + 50 min / 20 moves + 10 min, with 30 seconds increment per move.
A large range of accommodations, very reasonably priced, is available in Vaujany, with either hotels, furnished apartments or family run rentals. We invite you to visit the Vaujany tourist office web site for more information. They can also be called at (+33) 4 76 807 237.
Vaujany is easily accessible from Grenoble by the road. More information on how to come is available in the practical information section.
